Masters of Deception

Gamblers are the masters of deception, making a living off the natural gullibility of the ignorant simpletons that inhabit every corner of the world. Gamblers can be found everywhere, from working alone hussling the three-card monte in the subways to organizing large groups to pull off a really big scam worthy of The Sting. The risks are great, but the rewards can be even greater--bet you can hear that Ragtime music already.

The Gambler is a very flexible character class, depending on what type of huckster you are wanting to play in the game. From cheating at cards to the Cardiff Giant, Gamblers and Con Artists have emptied our pockets with sytle and finesse for thousands of years. With any luck, they hope the supply of easy marks never runs out.

Scam: The ability to influence or control others through deception. A creative combination of the Persuasion and Perform skills, this skill uses intelligence to outwit your mark rather than simply empathy and emotion to win them over--although a smart Gambler will often deceptively pull the heart strings to get exactly what he or she wants. Scam can be added to all Persuation, Seduction, and Interview rolls. It may also be added to some Perform, Compose, or Forgery rolls (GM's call on a situational basis). Scam is based on and average of the character's INT and EMP stats, use the Musician (Rocker) scale for starting cash.

Slight of Hand(1): This skill allows the manipulation of small objects for things like card and coin tricks. This includes the classic skills of eye distraction, palming, and exchanging, among others. Also, if you wish use it to cheat at cards, you can add this skill to your Gambling rolls. Just don't get caught! +1 you can play "Guess which hand it's in", badly. +3 You can keep kids entertained with some tricks +5 You could make a living off of playing the shell game, no poker game is safe with you around +7 Handcuffs are childs play! You've been offered stage magic jobs in Vegas +9 You could give Harry Houdini a run for his money. This skill is based on REF.

"Survival of the fittest is the law of nature. We decieve or we are decieved. Thus, we flourish or perish. Nothing good ever happened to me when I trusted others. That is the lesson."

"Dammit, I KNOW I gave her four THREES. She had to make a SWITCH. I can't let her get away with that. But what am I supposed to do? Call her for cheating better than me, in front of the others? I've been played, played good."
